About the Event
Farm to School is a win-win-win that benefits schools, farmers, and keeps money local, which benefits our community. Locally produced food gets kids excited about eating healthy and teaches them about agriculture.
Farmers, please join us for the following sessions aimed at increasing local procurement. Â This event is free due to funding by a USDA Farm to School grant. Session materials, coffee, refreshments, and lunch by Chef John Huff are included as a part of this program.
- Selling to the School,, our local school nutrition coordinators will discuss the ins and outs of selling local agricultural products to the school, followed by a Q&A, and facilitated discussion on how to make the process more workable for all involved
- Food Safety on the Farm, review of on-farm and transportation food safety
- Maintaining Quality through Harvest and Post-Harvest Practices, UGA Extension specialist Dr. Tim Coolong will discuss best practices for harvest and post-harvest storage to maintain peak quality of locally grown produce.
